Today’s automakers are making engines more efficient, and with more power, through the use of direct-fuel-injection, turbochargers, and in some cases, superchargers. These awesome innovations are putting more stress on the oils that lubricate, protect, and cool the engines. This has prompted the American Petroleum Institute (API), and the International Lubricants Standardization and Advisory Committee (ILSAC), to come up with a new specification, API SP/ILSAC GF-6, to replace the present API SN/ILSAC GF-5 spec. While this is not expected to take place until 2019, the mandate for oils to meet the expectations of the auto industry is prompting an interim specification (as yet unnamed) to be put in place before that time. Sadly, as of this writing, most oils only meet the API SN/ILSAC GF-5 standard. However, AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil has been reformulated to meet the interim specification. AMSOIL Signature Series will continue to provide the best protection available whether your vehicle is an older model or something the automakers haven’t dreamed up yet.
